1000

Happy November! It is the beginning of the month of thanksgiving. In light of the time, I plan on keeping a list of 1,000 things for which I am thankful. I intend to write about the list, taking significant things to share. I hope to really recognize all the blessings in my life, no matter how minut or grand.

First on the list is:

1. God's grace

Of course, this would be something in the "awesomely grand" category, but it is amazing how often I take it for granted. Yesterday, my mom and I jokingly talked about that if I'd been raised in a different environment, I may have grown up to be Wiccan or something. At the time, it was funny. But then... I realized the importance of God's grace (again!) and that without Him, I wouldn't know which way was up.

"For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus."

Do you know about breathing?

If you’re reading this, obviously you know how to breathe; but I bet my purple loofah that you are doing it all wrong. Are you moving your shoulders when you breathe? The majority tends to inhale and exhale by exhibiting chest and shoulder movement, while actually you need to use your diaphragm. The general shallow breathing only uses the top half of the lungs; the blood vessels used to carry oxygen are in the bottom half. That is a lot of wasted lung power. As it results, we tend to breathe more rapidly than we’re designed to.

Respiring with the diaphragm has proven to have many positive effects. It lowers the oxygen/carbon dioxide ration – which, if too high, can give you headaches, fatigue, anxiety, and even panic attacks. Breathing deeply can also lower your blood pressure. So, try practicing the deepness of breathing…eventually you may be able to do this while sleeping (which has proven to prevent nightmares!)
